Telopea Park School Fête – Sat 3rd Nov 2007
It was a far cry from the first school fête that I attended in 1964. I recall my mother baking something for me to take along and afterwards a group of us heading to the Capitol Theatre to see an Elvis movie! This year's fête celebrated bilingualism and international cooperation, and featured fine foods from all over the world plus cultural displays. Eight embassies took part and over 50 attractions were there to enjoy including 24 food and beverage stalls. These included African Sensation, Algerian Delicacies, Belgian Moules, a French Cafe, a True Blue BBQ and German style beer brewed locally in Fyshwick.

Jane Goffman from Active Planning was the Fête Manager and did a marvellous job putting together such a wonderful event. She was assisted by the goodwill and positive spirit of nearly 200 parents, teachers, staff and students. Anne-Marie Wilson, a parent with daughters attending the Telopea Primary School, organised a Telopea Heritage display and invited the Telopea67 website to take part on the stand. |
The Heritage display attracted quite a lot of interest throughout the day including visits by former Telopea students. Linda Norgrove was a few years younger than the Class of '67 but she recognised a number of people from the student photo pages on the website. Kevin Gill was in the year above us and is now an Assistant Director at the Department of Education, Science and Training. A regular comment heard from visitors, regarding the website, was a wish that their year had such a resource.
