After bombing out 1st year at ANU (but honing my snooker and golf skills), I joined the Reserve Bank in Sydney. Did Economics at Macquarie University part-time and full-time under a bank bursery and ended up with 2nd class honours. Surprisingly, I’ve stayed with the Reserve bank since, but in a great variety of areas including Inverstment Banking, Exchange Control, head of Staff Recruitment, and now bank Supervision. Implications of the recent Wallis Report will mean a probable move to the new Australian Prudential Regulatory Authority by mid 1998. There is even some talk of this being based in Canberra, but Sydney is the likely site. I married Diane in 1974 and have three children, Celia (19), Garth (16) and Rowan (13). All the family enjoy a variet of sports. I manage to play golf regularly, despite the sporting commitments of the ‘kids’, with a ‘success’ being attaining a single figure handicap.
