TPHS Class of '67 40 Year Reunion

On 17th November 2007 46 former Telopea Park High School students from the graduating year 1967 plus 10 partners met to celebrate a 40 Year Reunion. The following photographs have been contributed by Adele Rosalky, Richard Elliott, Graham Moore and Jim Gillespie.

6.00pm Gathering at the school

With rain threatening the group met in the school carpark, collected their name tags and positioned themselves on the steps of the Assembly Hall for a group photograph just as it was done in 1967 and at the 30 Year Reunion in 1997. Kirsty Waring and Wendy Craik were late in arriving so are missing from the photo.

7.00pm Reunion dinner at the National Press Club

The National Room was beautifully presented and the display space just perfect for the Telopea Heritage display that was mounted. The service we received was excellent and host Toby and his staff were just wonderful, hospitable and obliging. Some of the small touches were greatly appreciated — a lapel microphone available for our speakers; a bell to summon the assembly into the room; and the chef carving the roast. The food was more than ample and the range just perfect. The beverages were in plentiful supply and to everyones liking. One guest arrived very late having had a medical emergency earlier but Toby was able to find some food for her.

Proceedings began with a toast to the memory of those departed and to the good health of those who couldn't be with us on the night. Adele Rosalky and Jim Gillespie read out 24 messages sent by some of those who couldn't attend. As the name of each well-wisher was recognised there was a round of applause. Included in the messages were greetings from former teachers Jan Aitken, Nigel Murray-Harvey and John Rooney.

Speakers at the Reunion

Bettina Arndt and Graham Moore were invited to give talks relating to their careers. As one of Australia's first sex therapists and editor of Forum Magazine, Tina shared some of the lighter sides of her career. Knowing that Tina would be a hard act to follow Graham titled his talk Successes from the Casting Couch — ouch! and drew on his experiences as a producer of some of Australia's most popular TV drama series. At the conclusion of his talk Graham invited Wendy Craik to the podium to present Jim Gillespie with a framed certificate in appreciation of his efforts in organising the Reunion. David Brown gave the 'roll call', Judy Hollingworth reported on the Yarralumla Primary School 50 year celebrations and Judi Preston-Stanley talked about the forthcoming Forrest Primary School 50 year anniversary.
